Preparing to become one parish

A guide to the transition, with dated source information.

Status reviewed October 9, 2026. Mary, Mother of Mercy is currently a pastorate comprising Divine Mercy Parish, St. Norbert Parish, and Holy Cross Parish. We continue to use “Pastorate” until a formal effective date for the merger is announced.

Has the merger happened?

The pastoral letter in the September 27 bulletin, page 2 anticipated a canonical merger near the end of October. It did not establish a final effective date or announce that the merger was complete. Please rely on a subsequent official announcement for the date.

What are the different stages?

The canonical merger concerns the parishes’ status in the Church. Civil incorporation concerns the organization’s legal structure. The financial merger involves the work of bringing financial administration together. These steps do not all take place on one day. The September 27 letter anticipated the financial merger the following year.

What happens to our four churches?

Our shared life includes St. Aloysius in Sauk City, St. Norbert in Roxbury, St. Barnabas in Mazomanie, and St. Mary, Health of the Sick in Merrimac. Continue to use the current church pages and Sacramentum schedules for worship information. This FAQ does not announce a church closure or a new worship schedule.

How are lay trustees chosen?

The October 11 bulletin, page 2 invites nominations for secretary and treasurer trustees, with a deadline of October 25. Please read the eligibility criteria and obtain the nominee’s consent. The election weekend will be announced when the merger date is confirmed. Open the nomination form.

Should I change my giving or registration?

Please do not change a recurring gift solely on the basis of an anticipated merger date. Our giving page identifies current destinations. Ask the office about your household record or a specific administrative question; we will share confirmed instructions as the transition proceeds.

Where can I ask questions?

Contact the parish office, attend an announced parish meeting, and follow the bulletin for dated updates. We are grateful for your prayer and participation as our communities prepare for this next step.
